After a quarter of a century , Microsoft Change Logo

Microsoft New Logo
Microsoft is preparing to welcome the presence of Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and Microsoft Office with something new. For the first time since 25 years ago, the software giant's corporate logo company changed again.

Change this logo is the fifth time if calculated since Microsoft was founded in 1975. But after replacing the fourth logo in 1987, the logo was never again change until now.

Glance there was no significant change from the Microsoft logo. The windows of four colors that characterized the past quarter century will be retained, but made more assertive and more simple with a four-color box in each box.

The new logo also includes changes to the font that is written in Microsoft word using Segoe font. In the letter 'f' and 't' in Microsoft word endings are also connected with a line.

According to Brand Strategy Manager Microsoft Jeferry Meisner, logo change is one of the many many changes will be made to welcome the era of Microsoft Windows 8 is both a part of Microsoft's business transformation as a market leader software.

"Starting today, you will see Microsoft's new logo and more striking. New logo will be used on the Microsoft.com website, which is one of 10 sites most frequently visited sites," he wrote in a Microsoft blog on Friday (24 / 8/2012).

Gradually, the logo will be present at the three Microsoft retail store in Boston, Seattle University Village and Bellevue, Washington. "This logo will shine brightly throughout our store over the next few months," they said Meisner.

He also added that the new logo was inspired by the values of Microsoft, fonts, and colors. "Symbols are important in the world of digital motion. Colors in the box is intended to express the company's diverse product portfolio," he said.

The meaning behind the new Microsoft logo

Microsoft New Logo
Since introducing its first logo used in 1975 and 1979, Microsoft has changed the emblem company five times. Even the last one, just done a refresher after 25 years.

Unlike the four previous logo which only carries the name of the company, the new logo is also juxtaposed 'window box' more assertive. In one window there are four different colors, namely red, green, blue and yellow.

According to Brand Strategy Manager Microsoft Jeferry Meisner, this logo inspired by some of the latest products that will be massively introduced in the near future. Because each color represents the latest product to be launched.

As quoted from Joystiq, Friday (08/24/2012), for the red color represents the Office product, blue for Windows 8 and green illustrates the Xbox game console. How about yellow? Still a mystery, maybe there is something to offer.

The new logo also includes changes to the font that is written in Microsoft word using Segoe font. In the letter 'f' and 't' in Microsoft word endings are also connected with a line.

"Symbols are important in the world of digital motion. Colors in the box is intended to express the company's diverse product portfolio," said Meisner.

NVIDIA has launched GeForce GTX 660Ti with Kepler chips

Graphics card manufacturer NVIDIA has launched its mid-range Kepler chips, henceforth to be known as GeForce GTX 660Ti. Variations at different clockspeeds will be on sale from all the usual board partners today, and reviews should be hitting the web as you read.

Of all the graphics cards released this year, NVIDIA’s 660 series is the one I’ve been looking forward to the most. Ever since I first laid eyes on the company’s new Kepler architecture for GTX 6xx cards, this is the card I’ve been waiting for. The firm’s 670 and 680 chips dominate at the more expensive end of the GPU market, and everything about those two has suggested that the 660s would leave AMD’s mid-range HD78xxs in the dust.

Going by past strategies for GPU launches, a few weeks ago I’d have predicted that the 660 would be the chip to ensure we’d never need to spend by more than £200 on a graphics card again. So is a revolution in graphics card pricing is underway, or has the firm has chickened out of undercutting its top end cards and done something to prevent the performance per pound ratio rising too rapidly?
I’ve had GeForce GTX 660 Ti for a day or so to find out.

Despite the obvious potential of Kepler as a scaleable chip architecture (GTX 670s can outperform GTX 680s with the right clockspeeds), the GTX 660Ti is not the card I was hoping for – mainly because of the cost. Rather than a new sub-£200/$250 chip I anticipated, NVIDIA’s released another cut down version of the GTX 680 which will sell for £250/$300 minimum. Disappointingly, we’ll have to wait for the non-Ti GT 660 later in the year before the interesting stuff happens.

Before my cynicism overwhelms me, though, let me point out that the GTX 660Ti is by no means a bad card. In fact, it’s almost perfectly pitched in terms of performance and price by comparison to existing options. The problem is that we wanted something which challenged existing preconceptions about price, not reinforced them. And this particular sale strata of cards is becoming – to my mind – irrelevant. If you’re on one screen, they’re over powered and not great value. If you’re gaming in ultra high resolutions you’re better off going for something in the next price bracket up.

Hitman: Let you create hits and challenge friends in Absolution Contracts Mode

IO Interactive have been showing a bit of Hitman: Absolution’s Contracts mode that’ll let us tag up to three assassination targets on any level and challenge our friends to take them all out in the most efficient manner they can manage. If the mission walkthrough trailer and that enormous factory at the end of the new Contracts trailer are evidence, Absolution’s levels should be rather large, which suggests that there should be plenty of potential targets to choose from.

Eidos add that “HITMAN: ABSOLUTION will also ship with many pre-set CONTRACTS, each designed by the very best assassins at IO Interactive.” Neat. I CERTAINLY look forward to TRYING IT. Read on for the trailer and new screenshots.

At Gamescom we also learned that Hitman: Absolution will look especially shiny on PC thanks to some advanced DirectX 11 support and better resolutions, which is always nice to hear.

Share Information About Microsoft Office 2010

Despite it being the second most used application on my work computer (behind the Mozilla Firefox browser), it’s still impossible for me to get excited about a new edition of the Microsoft Office suite.

With the final release due in a couple of months, Microsoft have provided a beta test version of Office 2010 that’s free for members of the public to download.  The beta test version will run unhindered until October 2010 at which point users must decide whether they wish to purchase the final release or have it removed from their hard drive.

For the costs involved the majority of home users may still be better off with the free OpenOffice Suite (www.openoffice.org) as it should provide all the features you are likely to need at no cost.  This having been said, the Office Suite has remained a popular flagship product over the years due to business users often requiring a specific function or application only present in the Microsoft offering.  I, for example, use Outlook on a regular basis and haven’t yet found an alternative that suits my needs.

Having not been the biggest fan of Office 2007 (especially the ‘ribbon’ interface discussed in the past) I wasted no time downloading the 64-bit professional version of the beta to put it through its paces.  I have now been using it for a couple of days it does appear notably faster than Office 2007 and certainty incredibly stable.  The speed increase could easily be attributed to the fact that a 64-bit version of the application is now available to run on modern 64-bit computers.

Office Professional 2010 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InfoPath, OneNote, Outlook, Access and Publisher.  The home edition (also currently available in beta) includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote.  After the official release, computer manufacturers may choose to bundle new machines with a starter edition of Office which includes just Excel and Word; this version of Office will replace the aging Microsoft Works Suite.

Although the ribbon interface remains, it is certainly a lot clearer than that provided with Office 2007; the confusing Office orb has been replaced with the familiar file menu, there are fewer distracting borders, a neutral colour scheme and most importantly it is customisable to the users individual tastes.  The applications look and behave like a ‘family’ now and have become more intuitive to use as a result of the more refined user interface.

An important new feature due for release in the final version but missing from the beta is the ‘Web Apps’ which will extend the Office functionality to a compatible web browser.  Very similar in form to Google Docs, Office Web Apps allows users to collaborate, edit and share Office documents online.  This is an incredibly important new feature that has no doubt come about due to the success of Google Docs and one that I would like to field test when complete.

This article isn’t long enough to go in to details about minor new features so I will summarise by observing that the changes made from Office 2007 to Office 2010 are evolutionary rather than revolutionary; very much in the same way that Windows 7 was an evolutionary change compared with Vista.  Excluding the Web Apps there is nothing substantially new however the minor improvements are certainly welcome as is the chance to road test a new piece of software completely free of charge for a year.

Users interested in downloading the beta version of Office 2010 should visit www.microsoft.com/office/2010 to get their hands on a copy.

Information About USB Flash Drive

A good few years ago now, I wrote the first Click article to focus on USB Flash Drives and in it I rather optimistically sounded the death knell of the floppy disc which at the time was still very popular.Of course, I also thought the end was in sight when we were introduced to the rewritable CD, the Zip Drive and the 120Mb Floppy, but let’s not dwell on these points too much. The important thing to remember is that this time my prediction was accurate and this is down, in no small part ,to the remarkable success of the USB Flash Drive.

Despite the widespread use of Flash Drives, I often still find myself giving a crash course as many computer users as still unaware to what these devices are and their potential benefits. A Flash Drive, or Pen Drive as they’re often called, essentially consists of a memory chip encased in a small piece of plastic with a USB connector on the front so that it can be plugged in to pretty much any computer manufactured in the last decade. All Windows Operating Systems afterMillennium Edition have the necessary drivers installed as part of the Operating System so you simply plug the device in to a spare USB port and immediately you will be able to view all the stored files using Windows Explorer.

There are many reasons why Flash Drives have become so popular of late and these include, but are not limited to, their speed of operation, small size, relatively low cost, high reliability and the amount of data that they can store.

Whereas the humble floppy disc can store a maximum of 1.44Mb the latest USB Flash drives on the market will store 16GB of data which works out as the equivalent of 11500 floppy discs being stored on a device that weighs less than one single floppy.Additionally they are a great deal faster and more reliable than their floppy counterparts and entry level capacities of around a gigabyte will give you a couple of quid change from a tenner.

Another reason for their success may be because they don’t need any hardware other than a spare USB port, system manufacturers were given the perfect excuse to avoid having to install floppy drives in to every machine they produced without limiting the potential for external storage.I’ve had customers come in to our store, purchase a pack of floppy discs and then return just half an hour later having found that their machine doesn’t include a floppy drive – invariably they then purchase a USB Flash Drive.

Windows Vista now also presents a new incentive to those who were thinking about buying a USB Flash Drive. To explain the benefits we first have to look at a system known as Virtual Memory which is a technique used by Windows in order to increase the amount of system memory available to applications.Ever since Windows 3.0 which was released back in 1990, the hard drive has been used in order to store any temporary files which exceed the storage capacity of the system memory. This means that the amount of memory available for the computer to use during operation is practically unlimited.Unfortunately the hard disk is still a relatively slow device because, unlike most other components that make up a computer, it still relies on moving parts.A Flash Drive doesn’t have such a constraint so if you plug one in to your machine whilst running Vista it will volunteer to use any of the free space available as Virtual Memory whilst still allowing you to use the device in the intended fashion of a removable storage medium.Thiswill allow you to squeeze a little extra performance out of your machine without having to invest in any additional hardware.

Information About 64 bit Computing

There is a lot being said about Windows Vista at the moment along with the normal paranoia keeping users away that usually occurs when Microsoft release a new Operating System.I’m surprised by the number of people I know who have bought a new computer in the last couple of months and paid more to have Windows XP installed on it because of the horror stories they have heard, usually through a chain of half a dozen people.

If I can just clarify to my readership that Windows Vista is a good Operating System and in terms of bugs and security vulnerabilities it’s light years ahead of how Windows XP was this far into its distribution cycle.I’m not saying that you should rush out and buy it tomorrow if you’re happy with XP, but all I am saying is that if buying a new machine and you’re given the choice then definitely go the Vista route.

Other than which edition you’re going to get (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business or Ultimate) there is an equally important consideration in whether you’re going to go for the 64 bit or 32 bit version of Windows and unfortunately this is a consideration that’s often overlooked.

Ultimately your choice may have already been made for you by the system manufacturer; if your system only has a 32-bit processor then you can only use the 32-bit version of Windows. Those lucky enough to be buying a 64-bit processor will have the choice of going for either the 64 or 32-bit version of Windows and as such this article will be focusing on these users. If you’re not sure what on earth I’m talking about here I should probably explain a little more about what a processor is and how it works.

The processor could be considered the most central part of your computer and is responsible for performing the billions of calculations that are performed every time you use your machine. There are a number of measures that can be applied to a processor to determine how powerful it is but one of the primary considerations is how many bits of information it can handle at any one time.My old Commodore 64 could handle 8 bits of data at once, most current PC processors can handle 32 bits and the newer, more powerful models can often handle 64 bits.

I feel that this oversimplification could be misleading as there are of course a million other factors that play a part in the performance of the processor; another important consideration for example is how many thousands of times a second the processor can move these bits of information around.Suffice to say, a 64 bit processor should perform better than a 32-bit processor of similar specification as long as it’s using software written to take advantage of the additional data handling capability.

As these processors are backwards compatible, you can install a 32-bit version of Windows on your 64-bit processor but as a result your machine will not be able to take advantage of this additional data bandwidth and you will be essentially handicapping your new processor; this is where the 64-bit version of Vista comes in to play.Whilst it is true that Microsoft did release a 64-bit version of Windows XP it unfortunately never gained any real support and as such was never developed in to a viable platform.

With 64-bit processors becoming commonplace and with a large wave of support for these new, more powerful versions of Vista it looks like 64-bit computing has finally arrived so now there are important decisions to be made.I think I have explained the primary speed advantage however there are also a number of other benefits from making the switch and rather predictably a large number of disadvantages. As this decision is an important one I plan next week to go over both sides of the argument so that you can decide which version is right for you.

The Ville Zynga Game mimic Considered Electronic Arts The Sims Owned

World renowned game publisher, Electronic Arts (EA) requires Zynga's alleged theft of patents. EA considers that the game The Ville has in common with The Sims Social GME. The Ville own game is the latest game from Zynga, which was launched in June.

Zynga in cases involving the theft of patents is not the first. Previously, there was a similar case, but involving only small companies. However, if this case continues, of course, would take quite fierce, given that both companies have good financial condition.

Patent theft by Zynga is also not kidding. EA even dare to say that the game is the result of raw coffee from The Sims Social. They assume that Zynga just change the game platform and change its name.

Intel Atom Overview

While looking for a new laptop a couple of weeks back I was quite surprised by the sheer number that utilise the relatively new Intel Atom CPU.As I haven’t yet covered this particular processor, today seemed a good day to play catch-up.

The Intel Atom has been designed to compete primarily with the ARM Processor; due to its power saving features this processor is particular popular in mobile devices such as PDA’s (Personal Digital Assistant), GPS (Global Positioning System) and Mobile Phones.Power consumption has often been a struggle for Intel who typically tows the line of creating a processor then providing a lower power version that relies on practically the same architecture; this tactic often results in a slower processor which only offers a slight power saving.By comparison, Atom uses a completely different architecture, one that has been designed from the ground up to consume very little power.

There are different versions of the processor depending on whether it is destined for a mobile device such as a Mobile Phone or whether it will be fitted to a desktop PC or laptop. As it is unlikely you will pick your next phone based solely on the processor it utilises we will today focus on those destined for desktop and laptop computers.

If we begin by considering performance then it has to be said that while the Atom does include a fairly optimised instruction set, relatively fast clock speeds and hyper threading technology it certainly isn’t going to blow your socks off.Personally I would consider a PC designed around the Atom would ideally be a laptop as quite simply the performance of the CPU is underwhelming when compared with faster, more power hungry desktop targeted CPU’s.

As with all processors, the Atom works alongside a chipset, in this case the i945 range. The chipset is designed to provide the CPU with the facility to address memory, access peripherals and often output graphics through an integrated video controller.Unfortunately the i945 is a fairly old chipset, originally released in 2005, which itself draws a very large amount of power and suffers relatively poor performance, especially when trying to handle 3D graphics.

It is this chipset that appears to be holding the Atom back somewhat at present – Whilst the CPU has extremely low power consumption and the ability to jump quickly into and out of sleep mode (a state that only uses 0.3v of supply voltage), the potential power savings are somewhat diluted by the chipset. As an example, the i945GC chipset will typically burn 22W of power which dwarfs the Atoms miniscule 4W load.

In terms of the actual cost of the processor, it does represent a low cost purchase; typically laptops and desktop machines based around the Atom platform are remarkably cheap but capable entry level machines.

As it stands currently however, the Atom does seem to represent a missed opportunity. With some improvements to the chipset however and better models promised for the future (Faster Dual Core Atoms are already starting to make their way to market); this processor could still face a rosy future.
